Hello, Memory Bound Friends!
At Memory Bound we believe we have the most talented, creative, and fun staff and we thought it would be fun for you all to get to know our little MB family a bit better! So each week we are going to introduce you to one of our staff members! We hope you enjoy!
This week we are featuring Pat who has been with Memory Bound for almost nine years. Pat is a wonderful co-worker and a true “get it done” kind of gal…you can always count on Pat! 🙂 She is a great help to our customers, always providing practical advice when it comes to crafting projects. Pat also helps with our make-n-takes and teaches classes at Memory Bound, often featuring one of her favorite tools, the Martha Stewart Scoring Board!
In her spare time, Pat enjoys a variety of crafts and hobbies, including making cards and mini-albums. Her beautiful cards are often available for purchase in our Staff Studio!
Here are some of Pat’s favorite projects, including this lovely Family mini album:
Here’s her super-cute Valentine theme mini album. As you can see, Pat makes good use of her scoring board for her mini albums, creating all kinds of pockets and flaps!
This is one of my all-time favorite projects that Pat has designed: An amazing mini-album that folds out…and keeps folding out! Love it!
Check out this elegant family mini album. Such a striking cover…
…then look at how it opens! This is a great example of how Pat incorporates her scoring board into most any project she makes!
This colorful mini album features many pockets and pull-outs, perfect for saving favorite photos and memories!
Here are a few samples of Pat’s beautiful wedding cards!
Now here’s more from Pat. Enjoy!
It is hard for me to believe I am coming up on nine years at Memory Bound this year. My husband, John, and I moved to Ankeny the first year we were married and have raised our family here. We have three grown children.
Family photo taken last summer:
I retired from my job as an elementary school secretary here in Ankeny, then also worked as a legislative secretary for a few years in the Iowa House of Representatives. I loved both of those jobs and made many friends along the way, but I refer to my part-time job at Memory Bound as my “fun job”. It has been the perfect retirement job for me.
It is a joy to come and work with such fun, creative people at Memory Bound. I always hope that some of their creativity will rub off on me!! Everyone here at the store has their own style and expertise and is willing to share their talents with other staff and, of course, our customers. I am amazed at how much I have learned about crafting from all of my talented co-workers.
I have so many fun memories from working at Memory Bound; it would be hard to pick a favorite one. Everyone here always looks forward to our holiday parties, thanks to Dawn and Kellie always coming up with fun themes every year. Halloween is another holiday celebrated at Memory Bound with staff members always trying to come up with ways to scare each other (it is always the most fun if we can scare/surprise Dawn!) You never know when you are going to open the freezer in the staff room and have a face (not real) staring at you or open the safe to be looking into the eyes of a big rat (not real)! Needless to say, working at Memory Bound is never dull!!!
Another reason working at Memory Bound is a great job is our wonderful customers. We get to share in the fun of helping them with projects, offering suggestions and ideas and I love when they bring in the finished product or when they bring in a new version of a project they have done using techniques they have learned in one of our classes.
One of my favorite crafting tools is the scoring board. To me, figuring out how to make something with the scoring board is kind of like following a pattern and solving a puzzle. Another of my favorites is making mini albums. I like the fact that you can start and finish them in a few hours.
I have taught several classes on using the scoring board and making mini albums. I also enjoy making cards, both for Staff Studio and for myself. I like to use a lot of texture embossing on my cards and have starting doing more ink embossing too (thanks to taking Diana’s inking and embossing class recently)!
Other hobbies I enjoy besides paper crafting include reading, bridge, bunko, boating, quilting and I recently starting taking yoga classes. John and I both have very large extended families and we love hosting and attending family get-togethers whenever we can.
We had a son and a daughter both get married last fall and our other son is getting married this coming September so my focus has been on weddings these days.
